Leadership Program: “The Power of Storytelling”

Leadership and storytelling…

Does anyone doubt for a moment the power of storytelling?

Not only is it a quite remarkable teaching tool, it is also a powerful tool to transmit ideas and values—and to stimulate thought and motivate those around us…

And does anyone doubt the power wielded by the best storytellers?

Because storytelling is such an invaluable skill for leaders to master, our program is designed to help leaders master this skill. The theme of our program is to show that storytelling is a window into the soul of the storyteller. It is simply a statement about who we are…

Ten guides to the power of storytelling…

In shining a light on the power of storytelling, we offer a palette of ten different colors—or thoughts and guides—to help leaders make themselves and their stories more effective…

This is the palette that we urge leaders to embrace—

 1.     Sharing a story should be an intensely personal experience

2.      In your story, don’t be afraid to share your vulnerabilities

3.      Because a story is a narrative, try to use the present tense

4.      Avoid the ramble: Know where you are going

5.      Every story must offer a point or a gift

6.      Never assume your listener will agree with your point or gift…

7.      Humor is important, but self-deprecating humor is best…

8.      Never use your story to sell yourself or your business

9.     Be authentic – and smile!

10.  Finally, don’t wing it – prepare and rehearse… And smile!

Finally, storytelling really is the shortest distance between two people and that a skillful storyteller really can use a story to communicate an idea or thought quite effectively.

The following video story is an example of the power of storytelling and how a story can convey a quite profound message—

making a difference for the better…
