Michael Friedlander’s early days…

In the early days, Michael worked for one of the largest commercial law firms in South Africa. During that time, believe it or not, he was young and quite handsome.

As apartheid was still raging, Michael escaped to London. There, as he became older and less handsome, he worked in the London and Zurich offices of a multi-national trading group. He was the personal assistant to the Managing Director of the group.
When asked about this London and Zurich experience, Michael offered this—

“I can’t remember learning anything from that experience… Actually, I can’t remember ever being in London and Zurich…”

Moving to Los Angeles…

After moving to Los Angeles in 1979, Michael was admitted to the California Bar. Since then, he helped his local, national and international clients to negotiate, structure and draft their business transactions. Sadly, during this time, he became even older—and even less handsome. When asked about his greatest challenge and triumph during those years, Michael offered this—

“It was getting my clients to pay me…”

In the late 1990s, Michael left the dark side. He left the practice of law to explore life on the bright side—the world of business. He first became the CEO of an international music company. Then he became the CEO of an international architectural design company. Then, after the devastating financial collapse of 2008, Michael decided to return to the dark side. When asked, he offered this—

“The dark side is clearly where I belong…”

He is now inching back to the bright side. While still practicing law, he is the CEO of an international strategic consulting company. He also recently became a co-founder of this storytelling project, The-Gift-Tree. When asked why he’s inching back, Michael offered this profound response—

“I have no idea.”..

Life is too short

“Steve and I were the only people who ever read this particular article. Steve claims his family did, but mine didn’t…”

Michael has written two books—
