An Icon’s Masterclass…

In the way distant past, I wrote a story about how, in trying to realize our dreams, we  should really take nothing for granted. To make my point, I wrote about how almost everyone who has ever read the story of  David and Goliath has taken it for granted that David, the small shepherder with only a modest slingshot and a few smooth small stones, was the underdog in his epic encounter with the giant, Goliath, with his suit of armor, shield and sharp, shiny, deadly weapons of war.

I wrote about how only David seems to have understood why he never regarded himself as the underdog in that encounter. And, for the reasons I described in that story, we now know he was right. Amusingly, we now know that the only underdog in that encounter was actually Goliath…

As this hopefully percolates furiously in your minds, I’ve another David and Goliath story for you. Like in the biblical tale, you might be tempted to treat the David in my latest story as the underdog in the encounter with his Goliath. But, if you are so tempted, you’d also be quite wrong…

Another Holiday Gift From Donald And His Mates…

Prologue to Another Holiday Gift from Donald…

Gotta admit that this blog about another holiday gift from Donald was inspired by some comments I received to my last blog about Donald Trump

So, if you like this latest blog, you should definitely thank those who commented on my last blog. And if you don’t like it, you should definitely blame them. Whatever you do, please don’t blame me! I’m the totally innocent party here—kind of…  🙂

It seems that, by comparing Donald’s approach to life and leadership with that of the iconic Nelson Mandela, I’ve needlessly irritated and upset some of Donald’s most ardent fans. Sorry about that!

Daffy and Donald…

If that’s the bad news, though, the good news is that my blog has also brought out of the shadows some colorful comments from the likes of “Donald Duck,” “Daffy Duck,” “Road Runner” and “Sarah Palin”…  Welcome to my cult, guys…  The Kool-Aid’s on ice…

Thanks, Donald – For The Gift That Keeps On Giving…

A prologue to this story:

A note of thanks to Donald for the gift that keeps on giving…

offer

Dear Donald,

I just wanted to drop you this brief note to thank you… Really!

For months now, your magical ideas have ignited our airwaves. And, for whatever reason, this reminded me of one of the most inspirational and iconic leaders ever to have graced our world. Whether or not you intended to remind me of him, it doesn’t really matter. Thanks anyway…  🙂

I do want you to know that I’m neither a liberal apparatchik nor a part of the lame-stream media. For example, I’m convinced you are neither Hitler nor Mussolini—nor are you a racist. There, I’ve said it. I hope you’ll now take my calls…

Our Extraordinary Capacity For Self-Delusion…

Leaders and followers beware…

My story today falls into the “I-couldn’t-possibly-have-made-this-up” category…

This is a story about self-delusion. It is about two sides of the coin I’m offering you. On the one side of the coin, we have leaders. On the other side, we have their followers—

  • The leaders want to believe the nonsense they might be sprouting—not because its true, but rather because they’d like it to be true. Their challenge is to find someone with the courage to constructively challenge what they are saying…
  • The followers want to believe their leaders so badly that, in the face of the hubris and self-importance of their leaders, they’re happy and eager to suspend their own common sense and natural curiosity. Their choice is between their self-interest in not challenging their leaders and potentially setting back their careers, on the one hand, and acting as a team member to protect their leaders, on the other,

The question, therefore, is what we can do to protect ourselves from falling into the trap created by the leaders’  hubris and their followers’ passivity?

“Hey, I’m Talking To YOU!” — Choice And An Unspoken Communication About Ethics…

A prologue to my story…

About twenty years ago, a client had a difficult choice to make. This story is about leadership and ethics…

It is about how he made that choice and how, in the process, he won the trust of his team—a group of quite prestigious companies from all around the world…

That he had won them over with an unspoken communication fascinated me—and I suspect it might fascinate you too. At least, I hope so!

I was intrigued how the gift of this story extends beyond the leaders of the business world and beyond those who are responsible for creating an ethical culture in their business and professional lives. It extends to every part of our personal lives too…

While you may not ultimately agree with the particular choice my client made in this story, this doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you can sometimes communicate quite effectively with people without yelling this at them:

“Hey, I’m talking to YOU!”

Anyway, let’s get going…

“That Inspiration Thing” – From The Good, The Bad And The Ugly… (Podcast)

The gift…

The gift I’m offering is about what inspired me to bring one of my very own ideas and dreams to life… This is actually a true story…

So, what is that gift?

You gotta take inspiration from wherever
and from whoever you can find it.
